Worldwide Green Tara

Mantra Accumulation 2021

Dear Dharma friends,

At the beginning of 2020, we initiated the 2020: Year of Noble Aspiration: Worldwide Green Tara Mantra Accumulation activity. We rejoice to all who have participated in this activity.

We have experienced a year that was filled with challenges. When embracing hurdles and difficulties, staying strong and maintaining a positive mindset is the key. No matter how many times we have failed, we should never give up. We should not lose our courage—we can always “reset and restart”. As His Holiness the Sakya Trichen has advised us that “at this [difficult] time, it is very important to invoke the blessings of Green Tara, because Tara in reality is the mother of all the buddhas, bodhisattvas, shravakas, and prayekabuddhas…and [represents] the perfection of wisdom.” Praying and supplicating to Mother Tara will empower us with the power, compassion, and wisdom—during good and challenging times—all the time.

As part of our 2021: Year of Noble Aspiration—Reset and Restart initiative, we sincerely invite you to join our Green Tara worldwide mantra accumulation in2021. At no cost to you, we will be sponsoring Tara pujas—on behalf of all participants—on the eighth day of each Tibetan month throughout 2021. With sincere devotion and noble aspiration, let us work together–hand in hand—to invoke the blessing of Mother Tara, for welfare and happiness of all sentient beings, and for world peace and harmony. May all our noble aspirations be fulfilled.

Yours in Dharma,

The Sakya Tradition Team

More Details

About Green Tara
  • Arya Tara is known as the mother of liberation and embodies the compassion of all the buddhas and bodhisattvas. Ages ago, she arose bodhicitta (enlightenment-mind) and vowed to remain in female form throughout her spiritual path and even after attaining bodhi. The noblest aspiration is bodhicitta, the wish to attain buddhahood for the benefit of all sentient beings. Bodhicitta arises from cultivating limitless compassion and loving-kindness towards all, without any exception or bias.
  • In her green form, Tara represents the activity aspect of the buddhas. She works to lead us from suffering and to actualize our aims. She also protects us from both inner and outer fears and dangers. Indeed, Tara prayer texts mention so many ways she can help us, and these examples range from the most mundane to complete bodhi.
