THE SAKYA TRADITION
Delivering the Precious Sakya Teachings Accurately and Entirely in Your Native Languages
Dear Dharma Friends,
Saga Dawa, the fourth and current month of the Tibetan calendar, is very holy because it celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni’s birth, enlightenment, and parinirvāṇa. Saga Dawa Duchen, the main festival honoring Buddha’s accomplishments, corresponds this year to June 5.
Also, three holy days special to the Sakya tradition occur this month:
On June 3, the parinirvāṇa anniversary of Khangsar Dampa Rinpoche Ngawang Lodrö Shenpen Nyingpo, the root guru of His Holiness the Sakya Trichen.
On June 13, the anniversary of Mahāsiddha Virūpa being accepted as the disciple of the female buddha Vajra Nairatmya.
On June 15, the parinirvāṇa anniversary of Ngorchen Kunga Zangpo
This is the perfect occasion to share with you a teaching by His Holiness the Sakya Trichen, entitled Way of Buddha. This comprehensive yet brief teaching provides an overview of the Buddhist path. The text is available in English and Simplified and Traditional Chinese.
Furthermore, we have added to our online audio-video library:
The complete video of the Shakyamuni Buddha and 16 Arhat puja presided over by Their Holinesses on International Vesak Day.
We are now in the fifth month of the Green Tara Worldwide Mantra Accumulation. As of May 23, we have accumulated 1,452,311,475 Green Tara mantras. At no cost to you, we are sponsoring Tara pujas—on behalf of all participants—on the eighth day of each Tibetan month.
As Their Holinesses have repeatedly emphasized, the effects of our actions are greatly magnified during holy times such as Saga Dawa; therefore, we should strive to perform virtuous deeds and abandon nonvirtue. Taking this advice to heart, we dedicate all our merit for the happiness of each and every sentient being, especially during this challenging time.
May all be well and happy. May Buddha’s wisdom illuminate the ten directions and every world.
May all be auspicious!
Yours in Dharma,
“The Sakya Tradition” Team
