THE SAKYA TRADITION
Delivering the Precious Sakya Teachings Accurately and Entirely in Your Native Languages
Dear Dharma Friends,
Today is Lhabab Düchen (the 22nd day of the ninth Tibetan month), one of the major Buddhist holy days. It celebrates Buddha Shakyamuni’s return to earth from the heaven realms after teaching Dharma to the gods, including his mother Mayadevi, who had passed away a week after Buddha’s birth and was reborn in the heavens.
Today also happens to be the birthdays of His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin Ratna Vajra Rinpoche (according to the Western calendar) and Her Eminence Sakya Jetsun Chimey Luding Rinpoche (according to the Tibetan calendar).
On November 11, we celebrated a gathering of five great events that includes a grand Sakya offering festival of butter lamps and lights. On that day we observed the parinirvāṇa anniversaries of five great masters: Khön Könchog Gyalpo (the 1st Sakya Trizin), Bari Lotsāwa (the 2nd Sakya Trizin), Sachen Kunga Nyingpo (the 3rd Sakya Trizin; the 1st Sakya patriarch), Gonpo Sonam Chogden (Lamdre lineage master), and Kunga Tenpé Lodrö (53rd throne holders of Ngor monastery). That day was also the 89th birthday (or 88th by western reckoning) of His Eminence Ngor Luding Khenchen Rinpoche.
We take this special opportunity to wish a very happy birthday to His Holiness and Their Eminences. May they continue to enjoy perfect health and long life, and continue to turn the wheel of Dharma.
You may watch the long-life prayer videos of His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin, His Eminence Luding Khenchen Rinpoche, and Her Eminence Jetsun Chimey Luding Rinpoche on our website or YouTube channel.
On such a happy occasion, we are sharing with you a teaching entitled “Finding Happiness in Difficult Times” taught by His Holiness the 42nd Sakya Trizin in 2009. The transcripts are available in both English and Chinese (Simplified and Traditional versions). We have also added the audio file of this teaching in our audio/video library.
Lastly, we have included the audio and video of advice given by His Holiness the Sakya Trichen during a long-life empowerment in Maryland, U.S.A. earlier this year. The teaching was given in English. You may find the audio and video on our website. Subtitles in both Simplified and Traditional Chinese are available in the uploaded video.
By the merit of this virtue, may all sentient beings swiftly accomplish full enlightenment and be liberated from the ocean of saṃsāra.
